Richard Plunket - Guitar, Vocals
Richard started playing guitar at age 10 and played his first
professional gig at age 13. Growing up in West Chester, PA exposed him to the guitar and vocal styles of soul music
and the Philly sound as well as music coming out of Detroit (Motown),
Chicago (Chess Records) and Memphis (Stax Records). After playing soul
and R&B music extensively throughout his early years, he incorporated
other guitar styles into his playing including: Carlos Santana, Chet
Atkins, Earl Klugh, and many others. After graduating college with a
computer science degree, Richard toured with show bands, country bands,
classic rock bands, cover bands, horn bands, and extensively with
wedding bands throughout the Philadelphia area. In the mid 1980s,
Plunket found himself in a Ken Battista lead R &B band called Just Friends.
Richard and Ken both agree that playing together in Just
Friends was just downright fun. They went their separate ways, but after a
few years they were reunited again in the Ken Battista Band/2008.
And guess what, it’s just as much fun as before! Soul music is often a
natural progression into Jazz. Richard began studying Jazz in the 1980s
and continues a serious study program today with world renowned Jazz
guitarist Jimmy Bruno. You might catch some of Richard’s finger-style
Jazz guitar during a first set. As diverse as his musical experiences
have been, you will always hear those "sweet soul music" guitar
influences in almost everything he plays. |
